Parbold and District Ramblers
Three Parks Walk October 1st 2023
(Harry’s nostalgia walk)
Meet at Parbold shops at 9am or Otterspool car park for a 10am start. The journey is about 45 minutes. There are no toilets at the car park but we will stop after about 20 mins in Sefton Park at the toilet there. The walk is 6.5 miles.(approx.)
Directions
There are many routes but this is the one I took. M6 south to Jn21a the M62 west towards Liverpool. Leave at end of M62 jn4. Continue onto Bowring Park Road A5058. Look out for a small junction on the left before the flyover to Queens Drive A5058.At the next roundabout take the third exit and stay on Queens Drive. After about 2 miles turn left onto Dovedale Road, the after 0.3 miles turn right onto Rose Lane. After a mile turn left onto Ashfield Road, cross over Aigburth Road onto Jericho Lane. After ¾ mile at the roundabout at the bottom of Jericho Lane take the first exit onto Otterspool Drive. Park at the second car park on the right. (free). If this is full there is parking on the road.
There is a Miller and Carter across the road if you wish to have a meal. We should finish the walk about 2pm/2.30pm.
The Walk
This is a pleasant 6.5 mile (approx.) walk over easy paths round 3 parks. Otterspool Park, Sefton Park and Prince’s Park returning to the prom. THIS IS A STROLL NOT A GALLOP. There will be a coffee stop outside the café in Sefton Park where there are toilets. If you have a packed lunch we will stop at the café on the way back where you can get a hot drink/ice cream depending on the weather.
If you wish, Harry will ask questions for you to answer to highlight features in Sefton Park. Remember, you are responsible for your own safety.
Sefton Park was named after the Earl of Sefton, completed in the mid C19TH. Prince’s Park was the work of Monsieur Andre of Paris opened by Prince Arthur in 1872. It was the first privately sponsored park to be given to the public.
