Meet at Parbold shops at 8.30 a.m.
Directions
Travel to Ormskirk Rail Station, train departs at 9.06am to Liverpool Central on Merseyrail, arriving at 9.42am.
Walk
Easy walk from the station 1.3 miles to Williamsons Tunnels, the guided tour starts at 10.30am, tours last around 45 minutes, there is an admission charge Adults £5.00, Children £3.00, Concessions £4.00, there are toilets at the centre. Its recommended to wear sensible shoes and warm clothes. Terrain in the tunnels is a mixture of wooden steps up & down and boardwalks, walking in semi-light, the guide has a torch and will point out any uneven surfaces and uses it to highlight items of interest. Tour ends at 11.15am.
Leaving the Heritage Centre, we walk towards the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. Here we will take lunch approx. 12.00 pm at the Welsford Bistro in the cathedral, serving traditional Scouse to Fish & Chips or a Sunday Roast plus lots more options at very reasonable prices, the menu can be viewed online. Anyone wishing to have lunch will need to let us know, as we will have to book.
Heritage Centre.
The Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre provides an insight into the fascinating underground world created by Joseph Williamson in the early 19th century. The tour takes us through a section of the network of tunnels and exhibitions which depict the life and times of one of Liverpool’s most eccentric characters. The Heritage Centre is owned and operated by the Joseph Williamson Society which is a registered charity and receives no public funding.
